It's still raining. On and off. But the weather has lost the passion and fury of the last few weeks and has exhausted itself into a state of resigned calm.
This afternoon the tide was low and the waves were mellow. The deeper waters were smooth, merging greyly into the sky. A lone surfer bobbed quietly behind the break. The beach was almost deserted. A few stalwart dog walkers.. and me.
At the far end of the beach, the low tide exposed mossy rocks, cool and green against the low-hanging clouds. Small sand-coloured fish flicked in the shallows.
It was beautiful. It felt soft, quiet and peaceful. After the frenzy of the holidays and then the wild weather, this was bliss.
A perfect way to slip into reflective weekend mode.
